What treatment is effective for Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia

Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia is an acute inflammation of the respiratory tract and lungs caused by the bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It is often accompanied by pharyngitis, bronchitis and pneumonia. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is an important pathogen that causes community-acquired pneumonia in humans, mainly in children and adolescents, but is also common in adults. Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia has mild symptoms and a good prognosis, but if not treated promptly, Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection can also cause severe bilateral pneumonia and other systemic extrapulmonary complications that can lead to death. Clinical presentation:

The main symptoms of the upper respiratory tract are headache, sore throat, muscle aches, and the cough is mostly episodic dry cough, which is more severe at night.

Prolonged paroxysmal cough is a typical manifestation of mycoplasma pneumonia and may be moderately febrile with shortness of breath or dyspnea.

A positive agglutination test may be seen on laboratory tests. Serum mycoplasma IgM antibody greater than 1:64. A 4-fold increase in convalescent antibody titers confirms the diagnosis.

Treat:

Early use of appropriate antibiotics can reduce symptoms and shorten the duration of the disease. Macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin, roxithromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, etc., are the preferred antibiotics. Patients who are not sensitive to macrolides can choose respiratory quinolones, such as levofloxacin and moxifloxacin. The course of treatment is generally 2~3 weeks.

If there are other bacterial infections, targeted antibiotic treatment can be selected according to the etiological examination. Of particular note is that antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins are not effective against mycoplasma.
