What are the tests for prostate cancer?

Step 1: Digital rectal examination: Feel the prostate with your index finger.If a prostate nodule is found, prostate cancer is suspected, and even asymptomatic patients should undergo a further prostate biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

Step 2: Serum pSA test: Normally, the pSA in the blood is less than 4 μg/ml. It is elevated in the presence of prostate cancer and other prostate diseases, which is by far the most sensitive indicator for screening for prostate cancer. If the pSA level is higher than 4 micrograms/mL, the test should be repeated, and the digital rectal examination should not be done again. If it remains elevated and inflammation or other factors are ruled out, prostate cancer is suspected and a prostate biopsy should be done.

Step 3: Transrectal ultrasound: The ultrasound probe is placed into the rectum like a digital rectal exam. This test is associated with elevating serum pSA.Therefore, it should be done after the blood draw. Transrectal ultrasound may reveal nodules of the lesion or lesions not found on digital rectal examination.

If the results of the examination show that you have prostate cancer, then the patient must actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment and strive to get rid of prostate cancer as soon as possible.
